Vote for board members who have proven their dedication to us and our future
To the Editor:
Three of our current New Scotland Town Board members — Doug LaGrange, Pat Snyder, and Bill Hennessy — were elected largely on account of their opposition to big-box stores. A fourth — farmer and former zoning board of appeals Chairman Adam Greenberg — shares their commitment.
True to its word, the board reduced the square footage of potential retail. But it did so much more than that.
The Board got grants from the Capital District Transportation Committee to hire professional planning consultants to guide the town to create a mixed-use zoning district to replace the current strictly commercial zone by routes 85 and 85A. This grant saved townspeople tens of thousands of dollars.
A Hamlet Master Plan was completed in 2012. During the last public workshop on Sept. 24, residents saw a depiction of potential uses for the area, giving us a more definitive view of what new zoning might be.
Residents also got a chance to talk with Doug LaGrange, Pat Snyder, Bill Hennessy, and Adam Greenberg about their visions for the future of our town. That's because these committed board members were there.
They talked with the residents. They talked with representatives of CDTC and the Department of Transportation. They talked with area home- and property-owners. They talked with the consultant.
Who wasn’t there? Craig Shufelt and Chris Frueh, Republican candidates for town board. In fact, Shufelt and Frueh never attend town board meetings!
They don't seem to have an interest (even as residents!) in the big questions facing the town, much less all the nitty-gritty decisions that must be made, from water district extensions, to repair of Krumkill Road, to the contract with the Voorheesville Ambulance Service, to the town budget.
I urge my fellow New Scotlanders to vote for board members who have proven their dedication to us and our future.
Vote for Doug LaGrange, Pat Snyder, Bill Hennessy, and Adam Greenberg.
