Have fun and learn lessons at the Westmere firehouse

To the Editor:

The Westmere Fire Department will be having a Fire Prevention Open House at our station at 1741 Western Ave. on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Adults and children will be able to flow water and participate in other activities; meet Sparky the Fire Dog; sit in the fire apparatus, including the driver's seat; get up close to our ladder truck with the ladder extended almost 100 feet high; examine our heavy rescue truck and our fire engines, and, of course, be given lots of fire prevention materials.

There will also be a free drawing for carbon monoxide detectors.

The volunteer firefighters of the Westmere Fire Department urge all residents of Westmere and the surrounding areas to stop by during our open house to meet the firefighters, tour the fire house, and both have a good time and learn valuable fire-prevention lessons.

Barry L. Nelson, president
