Colling wins sectionals

GUILDERLAND — Guilderland senior Mason Colling won the Class A golf tournament last Thursday.

Colling shot a 69 to finish two strokes under par and beat Niskayuna’s Bryan Barach by two strokes.

Colling made the first cut of the inter-sectional — which includes all classes — on Tuesday. He finished fifth on the day after shooting a 75. The second and final round of the tournament is scheduled for Friday. The top finishers advance to the state meet that will be held in the spring.
"He made the state tournament last year," said Guilderland Coach Andy Ryan. "And he’s gotten better. He’s looking forward to going back to Cornell. But I’ve seen guys who went last year that are not even in it and guys that were qualified as sophomores that you don’t here from. He has to work just as hard on Friday. He deserves to go on."
