NEW SCOTLAND — Four students, two drivers, and a bus aid are not seriously injured after a pickup truck collided with a short school bus last Friday.

Anthony Vadalabene, 55, of Thompson Lake Road in Berne, didn’t stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Picard Road and Route 156, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department.  His 2000 Ford pickup truck crashed into a Durham School Services bus that was transporting four Albany special-needs students from the Cobb Memorial School in Altamont, according to the department.

Everyone involved in the crash was taken to one of three area hospitals with minor injuries; the school-bus driver was the most seriously injured, said Brian Wood, the Emergency Medical Services coordinator on the scene.  She had injuries to her leg, arm, and chest, according to the sheriff’s department.

That was the third accident in town within half-an-hour, Wood said on Friday.  Responding to accidents with multiple patients “will tax you in a hurry,” he said of spreading emergency services thin.

Police issued two summonses to Vadalabene, one for failing to stop for a stop sign and one for traveling at a speed that is unreasonable and imprudent.
