Duncan uncontested for highway super

NEW SCOTLAND — Democrat Darrell Duncan is heading into his ninth election for the highway superintendent’s post.  He is not being challenged.

He likes representing the community, Duncan said.

The biggest challenge he’s faced recently, Duncan said, is in the midst of a poor economy, maintaining the roads and the town’s equipment.  It’s been a struggle to keep the level of service where it has been while keeping the tax rate down, he said.

The highway department has replaced box culverts and rehabbed the Clarksville water tank, which saved the town money, he said, and he’s proud of that.

Duncan is responsible for the town’s roughly 80 miles of road and more than a dozen employees.
