Nod to the past: Jane McLean, formerly of Knox, created a dozen aprons featuring vintage “Grandmother’s Fan” quilt blocks as a fundraiser for Friends of the Berne Library. Photos, details, and ordering information are available on her website at http://www.pinchpennythreads.com/grandmothers-fan-aprons.html.

To the Editor:

Starting Oct. 1, the Friends of the Berne Library will offer handmade aprons during a fundraiser for  library programs. The aprons feature details created from vintage Depression-era quilt squares. Each apron is available for a $50 donation to the Friends.

In the summer of 2015, Mary Browne of Knox gave me the sizable quilting stash of her late husband’s grandmother, “Granny” Browne. I used the “Grandmother’s Fan” blocks to embellish a dozen adult-sized pinafore aprons. I also put together a retrospective of Granny’s quiltmaking techniques, currently on display in the Community Room of the Berne Public Library.

Photos, details, and ordering information are on my PinchPenny Threads website at http://www.pinchpennythreads.com/grandmothers-fan-aprons.html. The Friends expect a sellout again this year, so please contact me directly about ordering your apron at .
