County announces 19 new COVID-19 cases

ALBANY COUNTY — On Sunday morning, the county executive’s office announced 19 new cases of COVID-19, with eight of them related to the University at Albany.

On Sunday evening, the county’s health department asked anyone attending services at Life Church Albany on Sept. 13 or 20 to call the department.

The church is located at 687 Watervliet-Shaker Road and the affected services were 11:30 a.m. on both dates and also at 4 p.m. on Sept. 13. The health department’s number is 518-447-4659.

Statewide, governor Andrew Cuomo announced 1.02 percent of Saturday’s COVID-19 test results were positive.

The positivity rate for the Capital Region, of which Albany County is a part, was 0.5 percent.

The Mohawk Valley and the North Country were tied for the lowest rate at 0.2 percent. Among the state’s 10 regions, these five had rates of 1 percent or higher: New York City, Long Island, Southern Tier, Mid-Hudson, and Central New York.

Albany County now has 2,940 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of the new positive cases, 17 had close contact with someone infected with the disease, and two did not have a clear source of infection detected at this time.

Albany County currently has 901 residents under quarantine, up from 894 on Saturday. The five-day average for new daily positives has increased slightly to 18.8 from 18.2 on Saturday. There are now 112 active cases in the county, up from 101 on Saturday.

So far, 12,041 Albany County residents have completed quarantine. Of those who completed quarantine, 2,828 of them had tested positive and recovered.

Tree residents, down from six on Saturday, are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, The county’s hospitalization rate decreased to 0.10 percent from 0.20 percent on Saturday.

Albany County’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 134.
