Police say: Road rage on foot

Dakota R. Doane

GUILDERLAND — A driver who honked her horn at a trio in the road watched as one of them tore off her car’s mirror and broke her cell phone, according to a release from the Guilderland Police.

Guilderland police arrested Dakota R. Doane, 17, of 463-C Church Road in Guilderland on Sept. 22 for criminal mischief.

Police responded to a complaint from a driver who said that she was traveling along East Lydius Street in the area of Cambridge Court when she came upon three people in the roadway, according to the release. She beeped her horn, and Doane first yelled and cursed at her and then tore the side-view mirror from  her vehicle, the release said.

Doane then reached into her car and pulled out the driver’s cell phone and purse, breaking the phone and throwing the purse onto the ground, according to the release.

The three then left the scene, and the driver proceeded home and called police. There was never any physical contact with the driver, and there were no injuries, the release said.

The driver did not know the three individuals, Deputy Chief Curtis Cox told The Enterprise.

Asked how police honed in on Doane, Cox said, “A person who was arrested cooperated.”
