Almond Lane named twice

GUILDERLAND — Almond Lane has been officially named for the second time in as many months.

Originally voted on at the Aug. 19 meeting, the town board voted again on Tuesday to recognize the drive off of County Line Road after the issue was tabled from the last meeting, on Sept. 2.  Andrew Hoelzli, who owns land on the road, had come before the board, requesting that it be named a private lane; he suggested Andy’s Way.

A private lane with houses on it must be named for 911 emergency services, and, in a letter to the town requesting recognition of a private lane dated July 23, Hoelzli wrote, “I find the need of a street sign be installed at its entrance for mailing purposes, 911 call locations, and delivery truck directions.”

At the August meeting, the vote was taken with little discussion and all voted in favor except for Councilman Mark Grimm, who recused himself because, he said, he is related to someone involved.  At the same meeting, the board voted the same way to designate the road, instead, as Andy’s Way, according to the minutes.

On Sept. 2, Hoelzli was before the board and, after it rescinded the designations it had made at the earlier meeting, it tabled the final decision for last Tuesday.

Eric Almond presented his family’s case for the name Almond Lane to the board and, in the same manor as the previous votes, the board officially named the private road Almond Lane.

“It’s been Almond Lane for 60 years,” Almond told the board.
