Will town or school honor a fallen son?

To the Editor:

More than one year ago, a Guilderland High School graduate was killed in the line of military duty.  While every serviceman or woman who is a service casualty is a terrible loss for the nation and their home community, the death of Major General Harold J. Greene (Guilderland Class of 1977) is exceptionally notable as he is the highest ranking officer killed in the line of duty since Vietnam.

MG Greene’s former command at the United States Army Lab in Natick, Massachusetts has renamed a street in his honor.  I would be interested in knowing if the town of Guilderland or the school district is considering honoring its distinguished fallen son, General Greene.

Lieutenant Colonel Greg Fairbank

Guilderland class of 1992

Commanding Officer, 6th Battalion (Military Intelligence), 98th

Regiment, Fort Devens, Massachusetts
