Berne’s Summerfest said all is right with the world
To The Editor:
Who can argue with the delight of children running through freshly mown grass, or swinging through the warm summer air to see the world from a new perspective? It brings smiles to the faces of all those around them, and a sense of well being that says all is, after all, right with the world.
Berne’s Summerfest, held Aug. 22, did just that. Mingled with the sounds of children at play came the scent of burgers grilling and hot dogs sizzling, the voices of adults engaged in conversation with friends and family, and the bustle of artisans and vendors displaying their wares.
The clank of horseshoes hitting their mark resonated. It was a grand day, a day of celebration, relaxation, and joy.
I would like to extend my deep appreciation to those who helped make Summerfest possible. First and foremost, I would like to acknowledge the committee that oversaw every aspect of the day: Dawn Jordan; Wayne Emory; Phyllis Johnson; Mary Alice Molgard; and our own, Model A Mike — Mike Vincent. Through winter and spring, they met, planned, and implemented their ideas.
Anita Clayton and Andrea Borst who together insured supplies arrived on time were indispensible. And to Dick Stock, who single-handedly arranged for the five phenomenal groups who played music throughout the day — Nite Train, Hawbuckees, A Bunch of Guys, the Hilltown Ramblers, and the Red Haired Strangers — a very special thank-you. Music filled the air from beginning to end thanks to his unflagging efforts.
Thank you to county Executive Dan McCoy and county Sheriff Craig Apple for being partners with the town; through their efforts and support, the day ended on a high note with a fantastic fireworks display that brought shouts and whistles from the audience.
Last, but certainly not least, a very big thank-you goes to Scott Green, Dave Harnett, and their crew for their help with the resurfacing of the swing set and creating the new horseshoe courts. Through their efforts, the park not only looked beautiful, but also provided the community with more options for play and enjoyment.
Summerfest was a great success. My deepest thanks to all those who made it possible.
