Hotel scheduled for completion in ‘fall’

Inquiring minds: Jamar Andersen, chief engineer, and Aida Drazhi, assistant general manager, left, talk with two people earlier this month at Crossgates Mall during a job fair to hire workers for Crossgates’ new hotel, the dual-branded Tru and Homewood Suites by Hilton, set to open this fall.
GUILDERLAND — There is no specific target date yet for the opening of the dual-branded Hilton hotel in front of Crossgates Mall yet, said the hotel’s director of sales, Emily Cuda. “We just say ‘fall,’” she said.
“We’re on the cusp of months, so I don’t want to say one and it be the other,” Cuda said.
Some construction is still underway, and there is a lot of finishing work to do as well, Cuda said.
“There’s a lot that goes into getting a hotel up and ready,” she said. “We have 192 rooms between the two properties. It’s a matter of eventually getting everything that needs to go into individual guest rooms into the rooms.”
The hotel held a job fair at the beginning of August and has hired some employees but is still looking for more, she said, adding that half of the hotel’s positions had been filled.
“We’re the first dual-branded hotel in Albany County and the first Tru by Hilton to open up in Albany County, so those are exciting marks for us to hit,” Cuda said.
Homewood Suites will be an extended-stay hotel with full kitchens, business centers, fitness centers, grocery service, a grilling area, and evening socials, while Tru by Hilton will be a full-service, midscale hotel for travelers of all ages, Cuda said, who have a “zest-for-life mindset.” The two separate brands will have a shared lobby.
Online, the hotel is accepting bookings for Nov. 22 and beyond.
“But we’ll be open well before that,” Cuda said.
