International fare at Guilderland’s newest eateries

The interior of Osaka Steakhouse and Sushi in Guilderland’s Star Plaza has a clean, modern look.

GUILDERLAND — Guilderland has two new restaurants and a third established one that has a new name.

Osaka Steakhouse and Sushi, a Japanese restaurant, recently opened in Star Plaza at 2050 Western Ave. near the intersection of Route 155.

It features Japanese food such as sushi, specialty rolls, and hibachi; Chinese food; and several Thai dishes including pad thai and curries.

Dharani, an Indian restaurant, scheduled to open in September, is also in Star Plaza, at the site of the old Dorato’s restaurant.

The style of cooking will be southern Indian cuisine, spicy and flavorful, said owner Sudeeb Lankoji; spice levels can be adjusted, he said, to suit customers’ tastes.

Part of the Altamount Restaurant Group, which includes Indian restaurants in Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Texas, Dharani will have a lunch buffet, and on the second Sunday of each month will offer a “mega-buffet,” Lankoji said, featuring 30 to 40 items.

Takara Bar and Grill, located at 1652 Western Ave., is essentially unchanged from its former incarnation as Ichiban Japanese and Chinese Restaurant, said the woman running the cash register recently.

“The other Ichiban, downtown, was sold to new owners, but kept the same name,” she said. “So the owners here changed the name, to avoid confusion.”

Takara features Japanese dishes including sushi, maki rolls, and hibachi.

More new businesses

Cheryl Lasher, the director of the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce, said that several new small businesses have moved into rental spaces within the chamber office, which is also located in Star Plaza, at 2050 Western Ave.:

Artistic Development can design websites, do graphic design, do video editing, and create marketing plans; its website is at www.artdevdesign.com;
