Clothing recycling bin available in village of Voorheesville

Clothing donated in a new bin behind the Voorheesville firehouse brings funds to the village.

To the Editor:

To expand recycling efforts and opportunities, the village of Voorheesville recently partnered with American Clothing and had a clothing-recycling bin installed behind the firehouse on Altamont Road next to the GreenFiber paper recycling bins. It has arrived just in time to accommodate all the unneeded clothing being cleared out for the back-to-school season and is available for use by the general public.

American Clothing has been conducting business in our vicinity for over 15 years and is located in Glens Falls. The village of Voorheesville will receive five cents per pound of clothing collected.

The clothing is distributed to be re-worn within the United States and Third World countries where it is needed.  Items not suitable for reuse are recycled into products such as pet bedding or, if it is deemed appropriate for shredding, it will end up as car insulation or carpet padding.  Tax receipts are available by calling the phone number listed on the recycling bin.

All men’s, ladies’, and children’s clothing, handbags, belts, paired shoes and sneakers, sheets, blankets, bedspreads, towels, draperies, curtains, material, stuffed animals, hats, and scarves are accepted.  For a more detailed list, or for more information, you may contact Village Hall at 765-2692 or email [email protected]. The bin is emptied on a regular basis and is maintained by American Clothing.
