GUILDERLAND — Police found a man’s body off a trail in the Pine Bush Preserve on Saturday.

Charles T. Plumadore, a 47-year-old Malta man, was reported missing on Thursday, after he did not show up to work, according to a release from the State Police. After a 48-hour search, his body was found on Saturday at around 11:15 a.m.

He had worked as a systems engineer for Riversource Insurance in Guilderland. (See related obituary.)

Plumadore’s car was parked near Point of Woods, the apartment complex on Knollwood Terrace, in Albany, where he worked, said Maureen Tuffey, a spokesperson for the State Police.

Tuffey said police “pinged” Plumadore’s cell phone, and were able to narrow his location to an area in the Pine Bush Preserve. Tuffey said Plumadore had killed himself.

“He was found near the power lines, off the trail,” Tuffey said.

In 2007, the most recent year for which statistics are available, there were 34, 598 suicides reported in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. There are over a million suicides per year around the world, although experts say that figure is likely to be low due to underreporting.

In addition to the State Police, the New York State Forest Rangers and the New York State Federation of Search and Rescue Teams assisted in the investigation.
