Empire State Games results





POUGHKEEPSIE — Local athletes converged this weekend in Poughkeepsie and the surrounding mid-Hudson region to take part in the 28th annual Empire State Games.

They brought home three gold medals in track and field. Guilderland High School graduates Claire O’Connell and Gered Burns won gold in the open shot put and 800-meter run respectively and Guilderland rising junior Brian Rhodes-Devey won gold in the 5,000-meter run.

Becca Stern of Slingerlands, a Bethlehem High School graduate, won four medals in swimming. She collected two golds, a silver, and a bronze at the games.

The open women’s soccer team featuring Guilderland High School graduate Amy Loughridge won a gold medal. Guilderland senior-to-be Jen Mihok won a silver as a member of the scholastic women’s soccer team.

Scholastic baseball players Nicholas Polsinelli and Stephen Cardinal won silver medals.

Boxer Mike Faragon of Guilderland earned a silver medal in the light welterweight division.

Once again, members of the Hilltown Hoppers brought home a slew of medals in canoe and kayak racing — four gold, three silver, and five bronze.
