Troopers arrest 3 men after Thruway chase
GUILDERLAND — After a car chase followed by a chase on foot, New York State Troopers arrested three young men in the early-morning hours of Sunday, July 28.
A release from the state police says events unfolded this way:
At about 2:05 a.m., troopers tried to stop a car on Interstate 90 at Exit 24 in Guilderland for a traffic violation. “The vehicle sped away and a pursuit ensued for approximately 2 miles, ending when the vehicle crashed into a guide rail after going through the exit 25 toll plaza,” the release said.
After a brief chase on foot, three men were arrested. Two more passengers were interviewed at the scene and released. Troopers found fake IDs in the vehicle, the release said.
These are the charges for the following three suspects:
— Driver, Nicholas Torres, 23, of Hopewell Junction (Dutchess County) was charged with five counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree possession of a forged instrument, both felonies; third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment of property, reckless driving, and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation — all misdemeanors; and several Vehicle and Traffic violations;
— Passenger Rayquan J. Williams, 23, of Schenectady was charged with second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor; and
— Passenger Quaran A. Williams, 24, of the Bronx was also charged with second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
All three were arraigned in Guilderland Town Court and remanded to Albany County’s jail in lieu of bail. Bail for the two passengers was set at $5,000. Bail for Torres, the driver, was set at $20,000.
