BUFFALO –– The 31^st edition of the Empire State Summer Games, back after a hiatus last year because of the state budget crisis, was held in the Buffalo area from July 21 to 25. About 6,000 athletes competed on six teams. These local athletes competed for the Adirondack team.

Cycling

–– Elizabeth Lukowski, of Albany, had a time of 26:22.10 in the Open Women’s cycling time trial for sixth place.

Diving

–– Ashley Van Patten, of Schenectady, won a silver medal in Open Women’s diving with a total score of 300.15 in the 3-meter event.

Golf

–– Floyd Miklic, of Albany, won gold and silver in Masters Men’s golf. He shot a 72 in the 18-hole final for gold in the 65-74 years division and shot a 78 in the Low Gross final for a silver medal.

Gymnastics

–– Brenda Goodknight, of Altamont, won a gold, silver, and three bronze medals in the Masters Women’s gymnastics competition. She scored a 7.500 in the balance beam for gold and received silver for her all-around score of 29.375. Goodknight won bronze in the vault, uneven parallel bars, and the floor event.

Fencing

–– Alexander Hutchins, of Medusa, and Rory Siy, of Feura Bush, were teammates on the Adirondack Scholastic Men’s fencing team that won silver. The team had a 4-2 record and lost to Long Island twice, the team that beat Adirondack in the gold-medal match.

Soccer

–– Erin Kelly, of Schenectady, played goalie for the Adirondack Open Women’s soccer team. Kelly was in goal for the bronze-medal game on Sunday against New York City. Adirondack lost, 1 to 0, but Kelly made eight saves.

–– Joe Cillis, of Voorheesville, was a member of the fourth-place Adirondack Scholastic Men’s soccer team. Long Island beat Adirondack, 4 to 0, in the bronze-medal game on Sunday, and Cillis scored no goals over the weekend.

Tennis

–– Joshua Jachuck, of Slingerlands, played singles for the Adirondack Scholastic Men’s tennis team and won one match, while losing four. The team had a tough time at the Games because it didn’t have any doubles players.

Track and field

–– Brian Dollard, of Voorheesville, ran in the Masters Men’s 10,000-meter race and won a bronze medal with a time of 49:59.11.

–– Briana Del Bene, of Altamont, finished sixth in the Open Women’s discus with a throw of 31.22 meters.

Weightlifting

–– Sierra Horan, of Altamont, won a silver medal in Open Women’s weightlifting in the 63kg class with a score of 72.

Wrestling

–– Nick Haluska, of Slingerlands, beat Temur Davlatov of New York City in Scholastic Men’s wrestling: 5-3, 1-3, 2-1. Haluska competed in the 64kg class.
