Kurtz lands in jail after dispute over fianc eacute e rsquo s pregnancy
VOORHEESVILLE After wresting an engagement ring from his pregnant fiancée’s finger, Richard T. Kurtz kicked her in the stomach, according to a release from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.
Kurtz, 32, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on July 18 he was charged with second-degree robbery, a felony; second-degree strangulation, a felony; fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony; first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a felony; an act injurious to a child less than 17, a misdemeanor; and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
At about 8:30 a.m., Kurtz and his 25-year-old fiancée started arguing. He was “alleging the unborn child she is pregnant with was not his,” the release says.
He then tried to take the engagement ring off of her finger. “During the altercation the victim alleges she was forced onto a bed, where Kurtz got on top of her back and choked her around her neck with a towel to the point she nearly lost consciousness,” the release says. The victim reported to deputies that Kurtz then used his hand to choke her while trying to remove the ring.
“Kurtz allegedly removed the ring from her finger and kicked her in the stomach,” the release says.
While this was unfolding, a 3-year-old child was reported to be in the home, according to the release.
Kurtz was arraigned in New Scotland Town Court and remanded to Albany County’s jail on $10,000 bail.
