State funds announced for road repair in New Scotland and Berne

State funds have been awarded for roads in New Scotland and Berne, part of a $27.8 million package to repair 134.2 lane miles of state roads across the Capital Region this summer and fall.

Paving and repair work will take place on:

— 2.5 miles on Route 85A between Route 156 in Voorheesville and New Scotland Road (Route 85) in the town of New Scotland ($750,000); and

— 11.6 miles on Route 443 between Chrysler Lane in Berne and Tarrytown Road in Clarksville in the towns of Berne and New Scotland ($2.5 million).

The funds are part of a total $403.3 million for pavement improvements on nearly 1,700 miles of roadway across New York State, including budgeted capital construction funds and $100 million in new funding.

Maintenance paving work delays the need for more costly, in-depth repairs, according to a release from the governor’s office.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones.  In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
