Failure of previous repair leads to water-main break in V’ville

VOORHEESVILLE – A July 7 water-main break on Crow Ridge Road happened because of the failure of an older repair, said Brett Hotaling, the superintendent of Voorheesville’s public works department.

Hotaling said a repair band that had previously been clamped around the water main failed. He did not know when the former break occurred.

When Hotaling and his crew arrived to fix the leak, they ran into a problem because the shut-off valve at the intersection of Crow Ridge Road and the Heldervale Parkway failed. Two other valves nearby worked, and they were able to shut down service. Customers were without water for about two hours, he said.

On Monday, workers went back to to repair the broken valve at the intersection of Crow Ridge Road and the Heldervale Parkway. Water service was shut off for about two hours.

Hotaling estimated that about 20 homes were affected by the break; no boil-water warning was needed.
