Slow down in Bangall
GUILDERLAND As of July 18, the portion of Route 146 that runs through Guilderland Center will have a reduced speed limit.
The speed limit will go from 40 to 35 miles per hour, based on an agreement between Guilderland and the state’s Department of Transportation, according to a press release from the town.
Recommendations for a revised speed limit were made in the Guilderland Center Hamlet Study and discussed at Guilderland Center Neighborhood Association meetings beginning in February 2010.
At the time, the association’s meeting facilitator, Kelly Gardner, said residents felt the speed limit was too fast, since there is a lot of foot traffic, with the high school and the shopping plaza on Route 146 in close proximity.
“This is the first issue we’ve succeeded in changing,” said Marcia Scott, one of the organizer’s of the association. “It makes me feel like we’re moving in the right direction.”
Prior to the change, electronic signs and new road signs will be placed to alert drivers of the reduction. Local law enforcement agencies will be enforcing the new speed limit, said the release.
