GUILDERLAND — Altamont resident David Morin was arrested for felony grand larceny on June 21, as he was walking out of the Montgomery County jail, where he was being held for similar charges, according to a press release from the State Police.

He had previously spent time in Albany County’s jail, after being arrested for grand larceny in both Guilderland and Colonie.

Morin, 54, owner and manager of DWM Kitchens, was charged with 14 counts of third-degree larceny, and one count of first-degree scheming to defraud, in Guilderland, and was released on $50,000 bail on May 13. According to the Guilderland Police, he owed clients over $164,325.56 in that town alone. On May 18, he was arrested by the Colonie Police Department, and was held in Albany County’s jail on $25,000 bail.

His attorney, Stephen Rockmacher, told The Enterprise in May that he expected Morin would be arrested by the Rotterdam and Cohoes police departments after his release from Albany County. Morin’s charges stem from allegations that he took money from clients for cabinets and kitchen countertops, but never ordered or delivered them.

One Altamont resident, Steven Vanderwarker, told The Enterprise in May that he and his wife paid Morin $16,500 for cabinets in early 2008, but never received them. His house still has no kitchen, and his wife has to wash dishes in the bathtub, said Vanderwarker. Paul and Mariann Stelmaszyk, also of Altamont, gave Morin $28,000 for a kitchen renovation, and said they have now been living without a kitchen since November.

Christopher and Colleen Corbett, on the other hand, residents of the village of Colonie, said Morin was the contractor for their kitchen in 2008, and described him as friendly, patient, and available.

Morin’s most recent arrest, made in Schodack, was based on a complaint from a West Sand Lake man, according to the State Police release, which describes events this way:

The man volunteered to put a kitchen in the First Bible Baptist Church, and gave Morin a check for $4,208 on March 4.

The West Sand Lake man was unable to get in contact with Morin after that, and he went to the Armstrong dealer in Colonie, where he was told Morin had never placed his order. The man went to the State Police on April 30 to lodge a complaint against Morin, the release said.

At the time that the State Police were ready to make an arrest, Morin was still being held in Albany County’s jail, and then was transferred to Montgomery County’s jail, where he was arrested by State Troopers upon his release.

Morin was released on $5,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in Sand Lake Court on July 12.
