Design on 20 provides one-stop shopping
GUILDERLAND A new design center on Route 20 provides homeowners with a one-stop shop for everything from building materials to small decorative accessories.
Design on 20, at 2390 Western Ave., is situated above local builder Troy Miller’s new CM Fox building. Stacy Snell, the selection specialist of Design on 20, said Miller formulated the idea for the comprehensive design center when he realized how many different sources he was recommending to his clients.
“We really wanted to have one place for people to come for materials, decorations, and design consultation,” Snell said. The design center has been open since January, and, according to Snell, the response so far has been “fantastic.”
Design on 20 has seven participating partner companies Best Tile, Builder’s Kitchens, Empire State Stone, Old Helderberg Antiques, Precision Glass, Security Plumbing and Heating Supply, The Lighting Place, and Town TV. Snell said Design on 20 serves as a satellite showroom for each company, and sells the companies’ products.
Products sold in the showroom range from the most basic necessities, like cabinet hardware, to the unique and luxurious, like the “experience toilet,” which has a built-in bidet, heats, and deodorizes.
But, said designer Sam Madia, it isn’t just about selling a product. Staff designers and associates also sit down with a customer and provide budgeting and cost analysis, space planning, home staging, and in-home design consultation.
“Our whole purpose is to be able to meet individual needs, including budget,” Snell said. Design on 20 can accommodate someone renovating a single room, to someone building a new house from the ground up.
“There is nothing cookie-cutter about us,” said Madia. Snell said Design on 20 is also open to holding events in the showroom space; the building has a working bathroom and kitchen, as well as an entertainment room with a big-screen television.
“So far, everyone loves the concept,” Snell said.
