Westerlo man charged with roadside assault

WESTERLO — On June 20, State Police arrested Frank Bryant, of Westerlo, after they allege he assaulted a man with a metal pipe on the side of County Route 404 in Westerlo, according to Trooper Kerra M. Burns.

Bryant, 50, has been charged with first-degree assault, a felony; and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, according to a release sent out by Troop G.

The victim was left with facial lacerations and broken teeth, among other injuries, Burns said, and added that the investigation is ongoing.

The assault occurred after the victim had a “verbal altercation” with members of Bryant’s family at a grocery store in Glenmont, the release says.

Bryant had left the scene by the time police arrived, and was arrested at home, the release says.

Bryant is the former co-owner of the Barn and Bistro in Westerlo, a restaurant that offered patrons a prix fixe menu. It opened in 2017 and closed less than two years later.

Bryant could not be reached for comment.
