GUILDERLAND — Music here will dig a well for a thirsty village thousands of miles away.

Nervosity, the sixth annual concert by Christ’s Church will benefit the AIDS effort in Africa.  Organizers hope to raise $6,500, which will cover the cost of digging a well in a Zimbabwean town that went dry 10 years ago, said Jon Hentrich, who is coordinating the concert in Tawasentha Park tomorrow.

“It just kind of grew on the hearts of myself and some of the other leaders,” said Hentrich of how the group settled on helping the AIDS cause.  When the concert series first started, it was focused on pairing youth with local community organizations, but “over the last few years it evolved,” he said.

Last year, the event raised $3,000, he said, but by collecting all of the proceeds from food sales, T-shirt sales, and raffle tickets, they hope to raise about twice that amount.  Of this years drawings for local restaurants and electronics, Hentrich said, “You can get a Wii and change the world.”

Friday night’s event will feature a battle of the bands, with 15 local groups being judged by a panel of four — two disc jockeys from Siena College’s radio station, which is a Nervosity sponsor, and two music teachers from the Guilderland School District, Lenore Snow and Rae Jean Teeter.
