BKW seniors did a great thing

“The best senior prank ever” is how Amy Anderson, the mother of Berne-Knox-Westerlo senior Kyle Anderson, described the Monday morning road block formed by umbrella-wielding students. “They held the school hostage and anyone wanting to enter the grounds had to pay a toll,” said Anderson. The toll is being used to support Emma Detlefsen of Emma’s Incredibles as she tries to raise awareness about lymphedema, a disease from which she suffers.
To the Editor:
Allie Tedeschi and Kyle Anderson organized the best senior prank. They got many seniors to come together and greet students, staff, and faculty on our front lawn with noisemakers, signs, music, and lots of energy.
After thinking of a good senior prank, Allie asked a few classmates what they thought of her idea. After some fellow classmates thought it was a great idea, Allie created a Facebook page and the students all came together and pulled off the prank. They set up a fake tollbooth so that drivers coming into school had to donate in order to pass through.
They originally were going to donate all the money collected to the next senior class but, at the last minute, Kyle came up with the idea to donate the money collected to an elementary student who is battling lymphedema!
Emma Detlefsen has a foundation going for lymphedema research so that money will be going to her foundation. Emma is also the cousin of a high school senior, Nicole Sherwin.
They collected $337. The rain on Monday morning caused a smaller crowd but they still had fun and did a great thing!
