Serious injury in three-car crash

GUILDERLAND — A 73-year-old woman had to be extricated from her car and air-lifted to a hospital on June 11 after she swerved into oncoming traffic on Carman Road, and then hit a pole, according to Captain Curtis Cox of the Guilderland Police Department.

Cartha Coonley of Schenectady was extricated by the Fort Hunter Fire Department.

The accident, which involved two other cars, happened around 4:30 p.m., on Carman Road near Ronald Place, said Cox. Coonley crossed the solid double line and hit a sports utility vehicle, driven by Ralph Oliver, 59, of Voorheesville, head on; a car traveling behind Coonley, driven by Judy Kunker, 50, of Guilderland, was also hit, Cox said.

Coonley suffered serious injuries and was taken to Albany Medical Center. Oliver received minor injuries, and was treated at the scene; Kunker was not injured, according to Cox.

Alcohol did not appear to play a part in the accident, Cox said, and no charges have been filed.
