Shop close to home for graduation gifts

To the Editor:

Gift-giving season is once again upon us, and I would like to suggest that your readers consider gifts of local history when feting the graduates in their lives.  Several books about local history are available from the Knox Historical Society, as well as copies of the 1866 Beers Map, collectors’ plates commemorating the first 150 years of Knox, and notecards depicting local scenes.

One of the available books is Dan Driscoll’s “History of a One-Room Schoolhouse in Knox,” describing the history and restoration of Schoolhouse 5.  Compare education there to the experience of the 2015 graduate!

Also available is the special 2014 reprint of “Knox, New York Sesquicentennial History, detailing the first 150 years of Knox.

“Helderberg Hilltowns,” the first book written about all four Helderberg Hilltowns, is packed with pictures of a bygone era.  As our newest graduates reflect on their past, I think they will enjoy comparing their experiences to that of their ancestors.

All of these gift ideas are available at the Saddlemire Homestead Museum on Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m., or by contacting John Elberfeld at 872-2082 or at [email protected].
