The clock is ticking for public to weigh in on $2.75M project

To the Editor:

On June 2, the Westerlo Town Board approved a $2.75 million dollar bond by “permissive referendum.” All taxable parcels will be subject to a 20- to 30-year tax levy unless a petition of qualified voters is filed by July 1.

The town board scheduled a meeting at Town Hall on June 16 at 7 p.m. to inform the public.

The bond is intended to finance nearly $900,000 in renovations for the town hall building (which was purchased for around $145,000) and $1.8 million to build a new highway garage.

Improvements are clearly needed at these facilities, but the public is largely unaware that the clock is already ticking on its time to weigh in on the project.
