Second annual ‘Fill A Car For Vets’ was a success

To the Editor:

Once again, by the end of Voorheesville’s Memorial Day parade, the big silver truck was full of personal hygiene and home-care items, summer necessities, and clothing to benefit the Veterans Miracle Center of Albany.

The big silver truck streaming with “Fill A Car for Vets” banners let recent Memorial Day parade-goers know where and when to hand boxes and bags of goods to Key Club members walking alongside.

Key Club President Andrea Akers said, “I convinced my dad that this was one of the best causes around to be part of this year’s annual parade, and he agreed to drive for the cause”.”

Besides Andrea and her father, “float” driver Steve Akers, Key Club members and Kiwanis family volunteers included Kevin Pai, Justin Cunningham, Kaitlin Murphy, and Naomi Hertz.

The Voorheesville Key Club and New Scotland Kiwanis members would like to thank the Voorheesville community for supporting and bringing items both to the parade and to collection boxes available at the Methodist Church and at Reilly’s parking lot throughout the day.

Andrea added, “We hope to continue this event for years to come, to make it a community tradition.  This makes a difference in the lives of many local veterans.”

Event creator and Voorheesville resident Alana Fiero created a Facebook page that community members can follow for updates on future collections.
