DELMAR — Two teenage customers at Dunkin’ Donuts were injured on Friday when a car crashed into the store.

The 2016 Honda Comfortable Runabout Vehicle was driven by a 79-year-old woman from Delmar who was treated at the scene but refused further medical assistance, according to a release from the Bethlehem Police, which did not name the driver or the injured teens; the driver cooperated with the police investigation before leaving the scene.

Only two customers were in the store at about 2:25 p.m. when the Honda crashed into the side of the building at 232 Delaware Ave. and was completely inside the store, the release said. The two customers had been seated at a table and one, a 16-year-old girl, was partially trapped under the car but was able to get herself out; she was treated at the scene with serious injuries, the release said; her tablemate, an 18-year-old girl, was also treated at the scene for internal injuries.

Both were transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital by Delmar-Bethlehem Emergency Medical Services and Albany County Paramedics.

The Bethlehem Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and detectives are investigating, interviewing witnesses, reconstructing the crash, and  working to determine why the vehicle crashed into the building. Police are requesting that any further witnesses call 518-439-9973.

Workers from the Bethlehem Building Department responded to the scene and the store will be closed until further notice, pending a structural analysis. The Elsmere Fire Department also helped at the scene of the crash.
