ALBANY COUNTY — In its third year at Thacher Park, the Sheep and will welcome llamas and alpacas.

Each year it’s been held, the gathering draws a larger crowd, Joy Scism wrote of the program.  This year, it will offer live animals and demonstrations, including the “leaping llamas” from Wunsapana Farm in Altamont, according to Scism.  Tory, a herding dog, will demonstrate sheep herding with owner Gary Kleppel of Knox.

Activities using wool — including weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, and needle felting — will be happening all day, according to Scism.

Vendors will be selling yarn, wool, fleece, roving, beeswax candles, handmade clothing and accessories, homemade hand lotions, herbal wreaths and pillows, knitting patterns, penny-rug patterns, embroidered sachet bags, handmade soaps, Elderberry Mary’s jams and jellies, and more.

“You don’t have to be a sheep and wool fan to come on down and enjoy the day,” wrote Scism, adding that people should feel free to bring a picnic lunch — the Knox Traditional Strings will play from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Sheep and Wool gathering will be at Thacher Park’s Paint Mine picnic shelter on June 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The parking fee is $6 per car.
