For Buchardt, baking is a piece of cake
GUILDERLAND CENTER — Cheesecake and cake slices have been her biggest seller since opening a bakery in Guilderland Center on May 8, said Tessa Buchardt of Berne.
Slices cost between $4 and $4.50, and whole cakes between $20 and $40.
Buchardt started making custom cakes out of her home about five years ago. “It just kind of grew, and it became too much to do at home,” she said.
Her specialty at Good N Baked Bakery in Park Guilderland Plaza on Route 146 continues to be cheesecakes and cakes — which she sells whole or by the slice.
She carries about 10 different flavors of cheesecake slices and of other cake slices at any given time. Her cheesecake flavors include Reeses Peanut Butter, Black Forest, and Raspberry Swirl.
Her cake flavors include orange creamsicle, chocolate raspberry, double chocolate, cannoli cake, and cheesecake cake — which she explained is cake with a layer of cheesecake in the center.
Buchardt makes custom cakes to order for events such as weddings, birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries.
She also offers cinnamon rolls, Danish, croissants, turnovers, muffins, cookies, cupcakes, hard rolls, and bagels. She makes all except the bagels herself.
“You have to carry other things, too, to have a bakery,” Buchardt said of her newly widened repertoire, adding, “So I’m learning.”
She also offers coffee, tea, and smoothies.
Good N Baked is located on the end of the mall closest to Route 146, just behind the Word of Reconciliation International church. It is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
