The Bulldog track and field team placed 22^nd out of 37 teams in the William F. Eddy Meet at Union College on May 16.

“It’s not just a normal meet; it’s a bigger deal,” said BKW Head Coach Scott Hannay on Wednesday. “Not just any athlete can be there. Teams go one-on-one with the best in the state.”

Greg Hannay, the coach’s son, broke his own Bulldog discus record with a throw of 153 feet, 10 inches to take the silver medal. His previous record was 152 feet.

“There were five guys within three feet of each other and Greg led almost all the way through,” Scott Hannay said. “It’s quite impressive to place that high against athletes from much bigger schools.”

Josh Glick pole vaulted his way to a sixth-place finish with a final height of 12 feet, 6 inches. Dave Haverly finished 20^th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.28.

“Glick was up against some tough Class A competition and he has had some better jumping days,” said Hannay. “He was trying some new equipment at the time, so the conditions weren’t ideal. It was a good headstart for sectionals.”

The Bulldogs had a 10^th-place finish from Tim David, Curtis Clark, Matt Von Haugg, and Brandon Kallner in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 45.46.

“All the events had very stiff competition and our athletes excelled,” Hannay said.

BKW will be heading to Greenwich on Saturday for the Class CC sectionals. Hannay told The Enterprise that every year the teams shift. Chatham has moved down from Class B this year.

“I’ve looked at all the statistics and we’re looking very strong against the rest of the field,” said Hannay. “I’m putting a lot of stock in the jumps, throws, and relays. We’ll be right there at the end if we can win a few events.”
