GPL gala fostered a sense of belonging to a vibrant community

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Guilderland Library Foundation, thank you all for your very generous support of our “Novel Affair” gala. On April 25, Mallozzi’s on the Turnpike was the happening place to be in Guilderland!

It was an evening of celebration, fun, and overwhelming success, none of which would have been possible without the generous sponsorship and advertising of our local businesses and sell-out attendance of community supporters.

In addition to raising in excess of our goal of $10,000, we raised awareness of the library as a vital resource to our Guilderland residents. The funds will be put towards library programs and physical improvements.

The evening had the support of our Congressman, Paul Tonko, Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, and most of our local politicians. It was truly inspiring to see just how important the work of our library is to each of them.

There were many silent and live auction items of great value thanks to many generous donors and the competitive bidding added a level of excitement and anticipation to the evening. The band “Mixed Company” kept the dance floor hopping, regaling the multi-generational participants.

Rob Ganz, long-time library advocate and honoree, gave a wonderful speech, sharing the significant impact of books and the library in his life.

Particularly noteworthy was a genuine sense of belonging to a vibrant, promising, and committed community. In spite of our growth and size, we seem to have maintained those small-town connections. Many of us hope that this is the beginning of many events that bring us together and benefit all of the Guilderland family!

Thanks again to each one of you. Our gratitude is sincere and profound.
