Motorcyclist dies after Route 20 crash

GUILDERLAND — Edward Handy, 55, of Guilderland, died after his motorcycle was struck on Western Avenue, by a pickup truck on Saturday, May 2. The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m., according to Guilderland Police.

The 2003 Chevy truck that hit him was driven by Robert Cole, also of Guilderland, pßolice say.

Handy, of 55 Mary Hadge Drive, was riding west on his 2007 Harley Davidson. Cole, of 67 Okara Drive, was making a left turn onto Route 20 from Gay Lane, police said.

Handy suffered severe internal injuries and was rushed to the hospital by the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad, according to Sergeant Batchelder. He died at the hospital.

Cole had minor injuries, said Batchelder, and went to Albany Medical Center, and was released later that day.

The investigation isn’t finished; Batchelder said he is working on a reconstruction of the scene, which can take a while.

Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be a factor in the accident, Batchelder said.
