BERNE — The Hilltown Homefront Patriots are holding another Tea Party event, on Saturday, May 8, focusing on government finances.

Anthony Bianchini, who is retired from the New York State Division of the Budget, will speak on the state budget, and Kevin McCashion, billed as a community leader and Sons of Liberty Patriot, will speak on the Federal Reserve, asking, “What has government done to our money?”

Two local candidates will also speak.

Deborah Busch of Knox who is running for the State Assembly — she’s seeking the seat in the 104^th District currently held by Democrat John McEneny — will speak on the condition of the New York State Legislature. Last November, stressing her background as a nurse, Busch ran on the Republican line for Albany County coroner, unsuccessfully challenging the long-time Democratic incumbent.

“We need officials with guts,” Busch said at the Hilltown Homefront Patriots’ first meeting, in February.

Margaret Adkins, a town judge in New Scotland, who is running on the Republican line for surrogate’s court judge in Albany County will also speak. “It’s the place where people’s last wishes are heard,” she said earlier of surrogate’s court. “Everyone is touched by it.”

The Patriot movement started a half-century ago and has gained momentum in the last year as Tea Parties have formed to protest federal stimulus spending and increasing national debt. The loosely defined movement centers on preserving individual liberties, which Tea Party and Patriot members feel are being jeopardized by elected officials and bureaucrats in the federal and state governments.

The May 8 meeting, which begins at noon, will be held at the Hofbrau Restaurant on Warner’s Lake in Berne.
