State funds will repave Hilltown, New Scotland road

ALBANY COUNTY — State funding to repave roads will include a five-and-a-half-mile stretch through the Hilltowns and New Scotland.

On Monday, the governor’s office announced that $100 million would be awarded through the Harsh Winter Paving Initiative to repave roads in the state, funding at least one project in every county.

The state is funding $11.4 million in projects to repair 92 miles of road in the Capital Region, including $1.4 million to resurface Route 157 from 157A to Route 85 in the towns of Berne, Knox, and New Scotland.

The entire route totals 5.5 miles, or 11 “lane miles,” meaning the total mileage for both lanes of the road, said Bryan Viggiani, a spokesman for the state’s Department of Transportation. Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of this year, he said.

Viggiani said that the repairs will be done by both contractors and state employees. The state will next have to solicit quotes from contractors to repair the roads, and will develop schedules for their repair after that, he said.
