Dutchmen bounce back from first loss of the season
GUILDERLAND The Guilderland baseball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, but bounced back in resounding fashion.
The Dutchmen lost to Shaker, 6-5, on Saturday, but bounced back to beat Ballston Spa, 12-2, on Monday.
On Saturday, Guilderland gave up four runs in the fifth inning and gave up a 4-0 lead. The teams traded runs in the sixth inning, but Shaker took the lead in the top half of the seventh inning and this time the Dutchmen did not have any late-inning magic.
On Monday, the Dutchmen bounced back behind the pitching of Nick Polsinelli and Greg Barcomb for the 12-2 win.
Guilderland banged out 14 hits and took advantage of six Ballston Spa errors.
The Dutchmen broke a 2-2 tie in the top half of the second inning with four runs and cruised from there as they shut out the Scotties for the rest of the game.
Guilderland also beat Averill Park last Thursday, 10-4.
Sophomore Kyle LaValley got his first varsity win on the mound for the Dutch.
The Dutchmen are now 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the Suburban Council. They hosted Burnt Hills on Wednesday.
Guilderland will be preparing for the home stretch of the season in the next couple of weeks. After Wednesdays game, the Dutchmen play at Shenendehowa on Friday, at Columbia on Monday, and at Bethlehem next Wednesday.
Guilderland finishes the season with games at Queensbury, and at home against Columbia, Niskayuna, and Biship Maginn.
