Drug bust turns up murder suspect

Kyle P. Brown

GUILDERLAND — A drug bust on Friday at the Days Inn on Route 20 netted 248 bags of heroin and a man wanted by the New York City Police in connection with a murder, police say.

At about 8 p.m. on April 28, Guilderland Police officers responded to a report of illegal drug sales following an investigation, according to a release from the Guilderland Police. The release describes events unfolding this way:

Officers knocked on the door of room 231 of the Days Inn, across from the uptown University at Albany campus, and identified themselves as police. A woman opened the door as a man was seen throwing items out of the window, later learned to be narcotics. Narcotics could also be seen on the bed.

The man, who identified himself as Leonard Washington, was placed in custody. His true identity was discovered to be Kyle P. Brown. Brown is wanted by the New York City Police Department in connection with a murder.

Another woman also in the room, Liegiea Parker, was placed in custody, too. The room was searched by officers and investigators from the Guilderland Police Department and University of Albany Police Department dog handler and dog, Rogan.

The search turned up 248 bags of heroin, 113 grams of marijuana, 23 Ecstasy pills, and over $5,100 in cash.

Both Brown and Parker were arraigned by the Judge John Bailey in Guilderland Town Court on Saturday, April 29, and remanded to Albany County’s jail and are due back in Guilderland Town Court on May 4 at 5:30 p.m.

Brown, 32, of 1230 Western Ave., the Days Inn, is charged with three felonies: third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of more than a half-ounce of a controlled substance, and tampering with physical evidence, and with three misdemeanors: criminal possession of marijuana, seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, and false personation.

Liegiea M. Parker, 40, of 1218 Albany Street, Schenectady, is charged with two felonies: third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and third-degree possession of more than a half-ounce of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor: fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
