Lady Dutch shining on the diamond
GUILDERLAND The Guilderland girls’ softball team has gotten off to a strong start this spring.
The Lady Dutch have won their first five games this season, some in resounding fashion.
Guilderland opened the season with wins over Voorheesville and Albany High School and then won four more games in a row to start this campaign, 6-0.
The most recent win was a 13-0 triumph over Schenectady last Thursday.
Eighth-grader Morgan Ten Eyck had two hits in two at bats. She hit a double, a single, and had a sacrifice fly. She collected five runs batted in and also scored a run for the Lady Dutch.
Deb Schildt pitched the entire game to earn the shutout.
Win over the Warriors
Last Wednesday, the Lady Dutch were involved in a much closer game as they edged out Suburban Council foe Mohonasen, 3-2.
Ten Eyck had another big game for the Lady Dutch. She had two singles including the game-winning single in the seventh inning.
Jenn McCutcheon pitched a complete game to earn the win. She struck out 11 Warrior batters in the contest and gave up just six hits.
Guilderland banged out 11 hits and committed just one error in the contest.
Flogging the Falcons
The Lady Dutch beat Albany for the second time this spring last Tuesday, April 15.
Guilderland pounded the Falcons, 15-0, in the non-league contest.
Schildt got the win in the pitcher’s circle, throwing another complete game shutout.
Senior catcher Sara Heller had the big bat as she went four-for-four with a home run, two doubles, and a single. Heller knocked in three runs, stole two bases, and also scored three runs.
Ten Eyck had two hits with a double and a home run. She drove in four runs and also scored three times.
Skunking the Scotties
Guilderland beat Ballston Spa, 9-0, last Monday, April 14.
McCutcheon and Schildt combined on the two-hit shutout of the Scotties.
Lauren Napoli had two hits to lead the Lady Dutch at the plate. Napoli hit a double and a single and drove in one run and scored three runs of her own. She also stole two bases.
The Lady Dutch played at Colonie on Tuesday and hosted Voorheesville on Wednesday. Guilderland plays at Columbia today (Thursday) and then travels to play in the Cobleskill-Richmondville Tournament on Saturday.
Guilderland then plays at Niskayuna on Monday and hosts Saratoga on Wednesday.
