GUILDERLAND — Three minors were arrested on Saturday at Crossgates Mall, after violating the mall’s parental escort policy. In a scuffle as one of the youth’s resisted arrest, he injured an officer’s leg, according to Guilderland Police.

Mall security called the police department after three 15-year-old males, who had been banned from the mall, re-entered and refused to show identification to prove their ages, according to a release from the Guilderland Police Department. The mall’s parental escort policy requires individuals under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult on Friday and Saturday, from 4 p.m. to closing time.

The release describes events unfolding this way: Guilderland Police officer Paul Mahan reported to the scene and asked the three boys to leave, and, when they refused to cooperate, Mahan attempted to place one of them under arrest for criminal trespass; the boy resisted, and Mahan received a leg injury. He was taken to Albany Memorial Hospital, and was released later that night.

Another of the boys ran and led the police on a foot chase, but was caught and taken into custody. The third teen was taken into custody without incident.

All three were charged with second-degree assault, criminal trespass, and resisting arrest, and were released to their parents. They will appear at Albany County Family Court on a later date, the release said.

Police are withholding their names, because of their ages and would not release any further details, such as their places of residence.
