Dutch get complete win
GUILDERLAND Guilderland lacrosse Coach Sean McConaghy is finally pleased with the play of his team. And it came at the right time.
The Dutchmen beat a talented and athletic Saratoga High School team, 11-5, on Friday.
"It’s the first complete game we’ve played all year," McConaghy said. "We responded the way we should have all year. Hopefully, it’s the start of us coming together."
The Dutch werent able to carry that momentum as their game against Ballston Spa was cancelled due to wet weather on Tuesday.
Guilderland takes on Shaker today (Thursday).
In last Fridays game, the Dutch got six goals from senior midfielder Matt Stillman. Classmate Uriah Myrie scored two goals and had four assists. Rory Nunamacher added two goals and one assist in the winning effort.
Nick Koss made 14 saves in goal for the Dutchmen.
The win moves the Dutchs record to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Suburban Council.
"We needed a good practice the day before," McConaghy said. "And we got one. They decided to play the whole game, which they should have done all year, win or lose. It was our goal to end the vacation week at 4-2. The seniors stepped up."
The win was the fourth in a row for the Dutchmen and was the most impressive of the season so far.
"They played Niskayuna closer than we did," McConaghy said, referring to his team’s blowout loss to the unbeaten Silver Warriors earlier in the year. "But that’s all over. We know what Shaker can do. But this win was good for them [his players] and it was a good victory as a team."
After Thursdays game, the Dutchmen will travel to the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh to play Canton. They then return home to play Niskayuna on Tuesday.
