Join in the care of your village, and maybe adopt a pet, too

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to once again invite the residents of Voorheesville to participate in the Village Green Clean on Saturday, April 16.  We are still in need of some volunteers to help with the clean-up of our roadways. Call me at Village Hall at 765-2692 to join in on the care of your village.

Additionally, we will be hosting several recycling collections that are open to anyone who would like to participate.  We will be collecting clothing and linens, books, personal care and cosmetic containers, blankets and towels, plastic bags, returnable bottles and cans, as well as 6- and 12-volt (automobile and garden) batteries.  These collections will be located behind the firehouse at 12 Altamont Road between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

We have something new and exciting this year. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society will be holding a pet adoption clinic — also located at the firehouse.  The humane society will be accepting donations of canned cat and dog food, and kitty litter. Come to see if a new friend wants to go home with you.

I would like to thank those local businesses that have sponsored this year’s event: Robinson Hardware and Garden, Atlas Copco, Pepsi, Lyons Building & Consulting, Advanced Auto, Swasey Rentals, Red Maple Land Services, MJ Biernacki Builders, Hotaling Landscaping, Stewart’s Shops, Smith’s Tavern, Advanced Car Wash, Bloom Salon & Make Up Bar, Jaycee’s Pizza Depot, Phillips Hardware, Dr. Steven Lysenko DMD PLLC, Reddy’s Delicatessen & Grocery, Key Bank, Pacheco Ross Architects, Infamous Signs & Graphics, TJ’s Auto & Truck Parts, Foxwood Small Dog Grooming, and Voorheesville Mobil.

Their generosity has made it possible to host an informational and social gathering from noon until 2 p.m. at the firehouse.  There will be a demonstration on chemical-free cleaning, and information on rain barrels, backyard composting, invasive species, and attracting pollinators to your garden.  The Master Gardeners will do soil testing.  There will also be refreshments, face-painting, and ice cream.

Please plan to join us.  Help keep beautiful Voorheesville Green and Clean!
