Boys take joyride to jail
NEW SCOTLAND Three 16-year-olds were arrested after an Albany County Sheriff’s deputy found them in a stolen car.
Deputy Sheriff Chris Parker stopped Justin Loika, of 2805 Broadway, Rotterdam, in a gold Hyundai for failing to keep right while driving on Route 85 in the early morning of March 30, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The car had license plates that had been taken from another car registered in the state of Maryland, the release says, and it turned out that the plates were stolen from a rental car in the city of Schenectady and put on the gold Hyundai, which was also stolen in Schenectady.
Loika and the two passengers, Zachary Ribbot, of 36 Kreisel Terrace, Amsterdam, and Mark Daigneault, of Rotterdam, were each charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, according to the release. Loika and Ribbot were also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and Loika was issued several traffic tickets.
All three boys were arraigned in New Scotland Town Court and remanded to Albany County’s jail. Additional charges are likely, the release says.
