Paul Mackey, 34, of Schenectady was sentenced on March 23 to two to four years in state prison for fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. The sentence was handed down in Albany County Supreme Court by Judge Thomas A. Breslin.

Mackey had pleaded guilty to stealing credit cards, phones, laptops, and GPS devices from vehicles throughout Albany County, between Nov. 4 and Nov. 9, 2016, according to a release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office; Mackey then made purchases using the stolen credit cards.

The break-ins and credit-card use were investigated by the Colonie, Guilderland, and Bethlehem police departments, leading to Mackey’s arrest. Many of the stolen items were recovered from Mackey’s home.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shadi Masri of the Financial Crimes Unit.

Mackey was arrested with Brenda Kuhn, 38. Kuhn pleaded guilty on Jan. 30 to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree identity theft, both felonies, according to Cecilia Walsh, spokeswoman for the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

Kuhn was sentenced to a term of felony drug court and is currently participating in that program, said Walsh; if she is unsuccessful, she faces a maximum of one-and-one-third to four years on each charge, to run consecutively.
