Guyer competes for pageant title

Rachel Guyer

GUILDERLAND — Rachel Guyer, 11, of Guilderland, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss New York Pageant.

The pageant will be held from July 9 through 11 in Rochester, and Guyer will participate in the pre-teen age division. It will be her third time in the pageant and she needs to raise a sponsor fee of $480 to compete.

Guyer is a Girl Scout, plays the violin, sings in her school and church choirs, plays hand bells in the youth choir at her church, performs in her school musical, and likes art.

She is an only child, but likes spending time with her friends, her family, and her two cats, John and Julie.

Her favorite activity is dancing.

The National Miss American Miss pageants were founded in 2002, and are held across the country for six different age divisions.

Guyer plans to visit local businesses in hopes of raising the sponsor fee; sponsors will be listed in the program book with Guyer’s photo.

She is also hoping to compete in several optional contests, including talent, actress, and photogenic, each of which is an additional cost for which she will be fundraising.

The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award; a crown and banner; a bouquet of roses; and air transportation to compete in the national pageant in California, where she will receive a tour of Hollywood and tickets to Disneyland.
