In uncontested race,
Mayor and trustee swap jobs

By Michelle O’Riley

VOORHEESVILLE — Eighty-eight villagers voted Tuesday in an uncontested election, endorsing a job swap for the mayor and a trustee, and returning another trustee and village judge to office.

Trustee Robert Conway received 81 votes for mayor. The current mayor John Stevens, who is stepping down after four years, received 77 votes. Trustee Richard Berger and Judge Ken Connolly were both re-elected with 82 votes each. These unofficial results were provided by the village office yesterday.

Polls were open from noon to 9 p.m. at the Voorheesville firehouse. Conway said that the candidates gathered in the firehouse on Tuesday night to cheer each other on.

The next day, Conway told The Enterprise he was honored to be elected mayor and is looking forward to working with the board and providing services to the village residents in the manner to which they have grown accustomed.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held on April 3 at 6 p.m. at the village office. First, village Clerk-Treasurer Linda Pasquali will swear in Conway as mayor. The new mayor will then swear in the two trustees and judge. Each candidate will serve a four-year term.

Conway recently told The Enterprise that his agenda as mayor for the upcoming term will include maintaining a reliable and safe water supply and completing renovations to the firehouse.
