GUILDERLAND — A University at Albany Police officer, driving a marked car from an appearance at Guilderland Town Court, was struck and injured on Monday evening.

Officer Johanna Fitch was driving east on Route 20 in a marked 2003 Ford Crown Victoria when, at 6:07 p.m., her car was struck at Van Wie Terrace by a 2007 Honda Odyssey, according to Guilderland Police.

The Honda was driven by Geetha Ravi, 45, of Guilderland who was entering traffic from Van Wie.

“Simply stated, she says she looked but didn’t see the police car, and pulled out in front of it,” said Captain Curtis Cox with the Guilderland Police.

Cox said yesterday that the investigation was complete; that there were no drugs or alcohol involved; and that Ravi was ticketed for failing to yield the right-of-way.

Fitch was transported from the scene to Albany Medical Center Hospital by the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad for head and neck injuries; Ravi sustained no injuries, according to Cox.

Asked about Fitch’s condition, Cox said, “She was treated and released.”
